After six incredible days on Safari, Liam and I flew from the Kruger International Airport down to Cape Town and headed to Franshhoek. Franshhoek is a small town about an hour's drive from Cape Town and home to some of South Africa's best vineyards and most amazing farm-to-table restaurants. We spent 2 nights in Franschhoek but REALLY wished we had stayed for longer.....
We stayed at La Cotte and absolutely adored it! Self catering cottages are ideal for cooking up your own delicious breakfast and perfect for families. The large pool is a fantastic spot to relax and soak in some rays after a day of wine tasting. And the interiors of the little cottages were stunning.
WHERE WE ATE:
Babel restaurant at Babylenstoren: Beautifully presented farm to table food and an inventive menu. Definitely arrive early to explore the fruit and vegetable orchard and gardens. Although fully booked, the amazing manager at La Cotte managed to get us a last minute table. Another reason to stay at La Cotte!!
La Petit Ferme: Lovely restaurant with the MOST spectacular view over the valley. It's the perfect place for a long lazy lunch. If going for dinner, be sure to get there early to enjoy a glass of bubbles while watching the sunset. Ask to sit on the terrace if you can!
Boschendal Farm Shop & Deli: The grounds of the Boschendal winery are heavenly and right out of a story book. The Farm Shop & Deli is the perfect place to grab a casual lunch. The outdoor dining area is lovely and relaxed with lots of room for children to run around!
GETTING THERE AND OTHER TIPS!
Franschhoek is a short drive from Cape Town International Airport. A car is highly recommended for exploring the Eastern Cape. Guest houses and hotels can arrange transport during the day for wine tastings as well as to take you to and from the restaurants in the evening. Its worth getting the names of a few taxi companies though as pricing is steep!!!
